Royal Mail Christmas posting dates 2026 and a UK dispatch plan
Royal Mail’s recommended Christmas dates run from 18 December for 2nd Class to 23 December for Special Delivery. Plan handover and seller order cutoffs separately.
At a glance
- For UK inland post, 2nd Class is recommended by 18 December and Tracked 48 by 19 December 2026.
- 1st Class and Tracked 24 share a 21 December date. Special Delivery Guaranteed is listed for 23 December.
- Branch final acceptance times vary. A date on the calendar does not replace a handover cutoff.
- Set your shop’s order deadline earlier to allow for picking, packing and carrier handover.

Check the acceptance time as well as the date
Post Office branches have different final acceptance times. Parcels must reach the branch before its cutoff. The Post Office confirms the main Royal Mail dates above and lists Parcelforce express48 for Monday 21 December and express24 for Tuesday 22 December. Check the product you have actually purchased. Post Office posting dates and acceptance warning.
Our practical recommendation is to check the place where you will hand over the parcel before taking last-minute orders. Record the service name, acceptance time and your planned handover date together. If you use a business collection, confirm the collection arrangement through your booking channel.
Turn a carrier date into a shop order deadline
A seller needs time between receiving an order and giving the packed parcel to the carrier. Build that time into your checkout message.
- Choose the delivery service and confirm the current recommended posting date.
- Allow time for picking, packing, address checks and the handover itself.
- Allow extra preparation time for personalised items or products waiting for stock.
- Set a customer order cutoff that your team can meet, then explain which orders and destinations it covers.
- Review the message if your stock position, workload or collection arrangement changes.
For example, a shop preparing made-to-order gifts should base its cutoff on its own production queue. Copying 21 December into checkout would leave that work unaccounted for. This is an editorial planning recommendation, with no suggested buffer presented as a carrier rule.
Prepare the parcel before the final rush
Use our packing, weighing and measuring checklist to prepare the booking details. Business senders should separately check whether the Royal Mail peak surcharge applies to their purchasing route. A posting date does not establish the price of a label.
